Big Fish has been honored with the National Award for becoming the largest buyer and exporter of yellowfin tuna once again.

The government granted the award to Big Fish at the ceremony held to commemorate this year's Fishermen's Day.

This marks the second time Big Fish has achieved the National Award accolade, while it won the the award last year as well.

CEO of Big Fish Shafin Ahmed highlighted it was an honor for the company to receive the National Award two years in a row.

"The award is testament to the hard work of our entire team. The award has rekindled our spirits in delivering top quality sustainable seafood products to our customers worldwide," Shafin said.

He further said the opening of the company's new facility would help them expand their business footprint.

"We are certain that our role in the Maldivian seafood market would expand once our new facility is established. We believe the new facility would reflect in positive economic growth in the Maldives," the Big Fish CEO added.

The company's new facility, developed at Kaafu atoll Himmafushi is expected to become operational by late December. Big Fish is confident of increasing its productivity ratio and capacity with newer products from yellowfin tuna upon the new facility's inauguration.

Big Fish said that the facility would elevate products such as processed seafood in ultra-low temperature, smoked products, and katsuo no tataki (sliced bonito), which are ideal and fast moving products in larger seafood consumer markets such as the Europe, America, and Russia.

Big Fish is also known for its sustainable fisheries practices, and is a 'Friend of the Sea', The Marine Stewardship Council, BRC, ISO and SMETA certified company.

The company frequently organizes capacity development projects for fishers in addition to CSR initiatives.
