Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has launched a one million tree planting initiative as part of the government's broader five million tree planting program, which was introduced on this year's Environment Day.
During a ceremony held yesterday at the designated Thilafushi Commercial Harbour site, MPL signed a pledge to plant one million trees, with the document being handed over to the Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim.
MPL CEO Mohamed Wajeeh emphasized the significance of the government’s five million tree planting programme, noting that it is crucial for protecting the environment and preserving it for future generations.
He said that all departments and regional ports of MPL will participate in the programme. Wajeeh also highlighted the collaboration between councils and clubs to reach the one million tree target.
