Police are seeking assistance from USA's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the investigation into the death of Zakiyya Moosa.

On September 10, 2024, Zakiyya was found dead in her residence in Noonu atoll Holhudhoo with severe injuries to her neck.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan confirmed to Mihaaru News today that they are seeking FBI help for the investigation. He said that reasons for seeking assistance will be revealed later.

Police have previously sought FBI assistance in other murder investigations as well.

On September 10, Zakiyya was found dead on the floor of her residence in Noonu atoll Holhudhoo by waste collectors. She was found with severe wounds to her neck, and a knife beside her body.

To date, Police have said that no indications of foul play were found in the investigation in to her death.

Residents of Holhudhoo, however, reject this claim. They continue to insist that the severe injuries found on Zakiyya's body could not have been self-inflicted. They have held demonstrations calling for justice in the case, with one scheduled for tomorrow as well.

In a press conference last month, Police cited the hospital as saying Zakiyya's cause of death was injuries to her neck. Chief Inspector Mohamed Samih said that there were deep wounds to her neck, three on the left side and two on the right. There were also a shallow cut across the middle of her throat. No further injuries were found on her body. However, there was no indication that the injuries had been caused by another person, he said.
