From last year to date, 57 companies have been issued permits to conduct Umrah trips. Of these, 14 were provided permits within this year.

The recent changes to the regulations now allow companies to submit proposals for Umrah permits at any time. Companies must submit forms 30 days before expiry of their permits.
A fee of MVR 20,000 is charged when applying for the permit. For permit renewal, MVR 15,000 is charged. The regulations further state that higher prices than acceptable must not be charged from pilgrims.
It further prohibits charging any fees from pilgrims before a valid permit is received. If an individual pays a company without verifying they hold a permit, then the responsiblity has to be borne by the payee.
