Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) officially kicked off the services of Raajje Transport Link (RTL) in Haa Dhaal atoll on Sunday.

The RTL services come under the transport and contracting company's large-scale Integrated National Public Ferry Network (INPFN) project.

The first phase of the RTL consists of three atolls; Haa Alif, Haa Dhaal and Shaviyani. The services were first launched in Haa Dhaal yesterday.

Under the RTL service, high-speed ferries will travel between a total of 13 inhabited islands of the atoll through five distinct routes.

Earlier, MTCC had launched a trial-run of the RTL service on May 2 in a bid to familiarize the public with the service due to which the services were free of charge.

In addition to this several familiarization programs were organized from June 6-9 as well.

Following commencement of services in Haa Dhaal, MTCC reported it will be launching the services next in Haa Alif atoll.

Additionally, Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) and MTCC jointly revealed that passengers can now book tickets online via the RTL ferry service application.

Customers can download the application from both Apple's App Store and Google Play.

The instructional video posted by the ministry for ticket booking confirms the ticket prices as well. Tickets for one-way trips cost between MVR30 to MVR100 while return tickets cost between MVR 60 to MVR 200.

The ministry further attested that people with special needs and children under three years old carried by their parents or guardians, will be able to use the RTL services for free of charge.

MTCC said the high-speed ferries used for the RTL services will have a maximum occupancy of 50 passengers while the vessels have been designed to enhance passenger comfort and security.
