The Islamic Ministry has announced that as they begin distributing the 50 tonnes of dates gifted by Saudi Arabia to the Maldives this year, starting next Monday, charitable organizations that arrange Iftar meals will also receive dates.

Every year, the Saudi government donates dates to the Maldives during Ramadan.

The Islamic Ministry stated that they have now received the dates allocated for distribution this year from the Saudi government.

According to the Ministry, dates will also be distributed to organizations that arrange Iftar meals. The ministry has requested interested organizations to register their names with them.

Previously, dates were only distributed to households.

In cities and islands, dates will be distributed to residential households on a first-come-first-served basis, with one packet per household.

The Ministry stated that from this year's supply of dates, there are 25 packets available for every 100 households. Distribution to households will be based on electricity meter numbers and ID cards of the receiving individuals, according to the Ministry.

The Ministry said that residents of Male', Hulhumale', and Vilimale' can collect their dates through the Islamic Ministry at the Islamic Center. In other islands, dates will be distributed through the island councils.

In the Male' area, dates will be distributed from next Monday until February 6, between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM.

Last year and the year before, Saudi Arabia also donated 50 tons of dates to the Maldives.

According to the calendar, the first day of Ramadan falls on March 1st.
