A council member of Kaafu atoll Himmafushi was electrocuted this afternoon, and has now been transferred to Male' for further treatment.
A senior official of the council told Mihaaru News that the council's only female member Wafiyya Ibrahim had become electrocuted while trying to remove the plug of a computer from a current socket board.
"Wafiyya had been drenched in the rain and was still wet. She had water on her hands as well. But the switch was thankfully off at the time. We believe that is why Wafiyya didn't suffer too serious injuries," they said.
The official said Wafiyya had been transferred to Male' for further treatment after she got electrocuted.
The persistent rain has caused the council offices to become flooded, as well as the rest of the island.
"Some houses do not even have electricity now," they said.
