In the ceremony held at Republic Square yesterday on the occasion of Victory Day, the special Coast Guard Unit 'Special Boat Squadron' (SBS) was inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
As per the MNDF website, SBS is an elite maritime unit equipped with specialized training. The unit is dedicated for rapid response in the maritime domain and high stakes operations.
The SBS will respond to marine incidents of underwater explosions, piracy, armed robbery, terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal fishing, and other such incidents.
MNDF displayed a drill yesterday of how the forces will respond to various situations, which included a demonstration by the newly established Special Boat Squadron.
