A MET Office official said that 160mm of rainfall has been recorded in Male' in the past 24 hours. During this time, the highest rainfall was between 17:00 hrs and 18:00 hrs, with 60mm rain recorded.
The official said that 60mm rainfall in an hour is a record amount.
The previous record in Male' has been 200mm in 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours, 163mm of rain was recorded in Hulhule'.
There has been heavy rainfall across a large part of the country in the past day, leading to flooding in many islands. Police and MNDF are providing assistance to those affected.
MET Office said that there will be rain over the next day as well across Maldives, with the adverse weather conditions persisting through Sunday.
