Residents of an island have raised concerns that a man who had been earlier arrested for child sexual abuse and released is now sexually abusing his own daughter and another child from the island.
The matter came to light when the child went on a playdate to another house. When the mother of the child's friend came home from work, all the children on the playdate were in a room, with a door locked.
When she knocked and called out, all three children came out together. She questioned his son why the door had been locked and what they had been doing. The answer was a worrying, 'we were playing husband and wife'.
The woman asked further questions of the children, with the girl in question finally sharing what was being done to her by her father. She is reported to have said that her father had told her he 'did it out of love', and that she had not shared her experience with anyone so as to avoid sending her father to prison. The girl in question is in Grade 2, so about 8 years of age.
Further probing by the woman led her to believe that one other girl at the playdate had also experienced similar abuse from the man.
The woman raised the issue with authorities, lodging complaints with Police and the Ministry of Family and Social Development.
Residents raised concerns about the man remaining free, which could potentially place those children and others at further risk.
The island's council, however, said that while there are allegations of sexual abuse, no evidence has been found yet, and declined from commenting on the matter further.
A team from the Ministry of Family and Social Development are currently active in the island to look into the matter, and some medical tests have been done of the children as well, Mihaaru News reports. The Ministry, however, has not commented on the case.
