President's SIDS conference trip cost MVR 3.8 million: President's Office

The President's Office has revealed that USD 247,000 (MVR 3.8 million) was spent on the President and his delegation's trip to participate in the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Conference.

The President's Office has revealed that USD 247,000 (MVR 3.8 million) was spent on the President and his delegation's trip to participate in the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Conference.

The conference was held in Antigua and Barbuda, and the President, along with a delegation of 16 officials, travelled to the Caribbean State on May 24. The trip lasted seven days.

The expenses of the trip, as revealed by the President's Office, are:

- USD 169,000 (MVR 2.6 million) on tickets for 16 persons

- USD 39,000 (MVR 600,000) on accommodation

- USD 17,000 (MVR 271,000) on transport

- USD 9150 (MVR 141,000) as pocket money

- USD 10,600 (MVR 164,000) on food

- USD 1500 (MVR 23,000) on stopover and incidentals

In total, USD 247,000 (MVR 3.8 million) was spent on the trip, the President's Office stated.

During the trip, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with senior officials of international organizations and financial institutes and confirmed assistance for the Maldives. This includes the Vice President of the European Investment Bank, United Nations Secretary General and the Commonwealth Secretary General. The trip led to the confirmation of investors for the development and sustainability of the Maldives, they said.

Maldives was the Vice Chair of this year's conference. During the conference, the President announced a number of actions that the Maldives will be taking for environmental conservation.
