Judicial Service Commission (JSC) alleged that judge Azmiralda had influenced Criminal Court judges to release her husband Dr Ismail Latheef when he was arrested.
Supreme Court judge Dr Azmiralda Zahir's lawyers have said today that no judge have given statement saying Azmiralda had called and influenced Criminal Court judges.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) alleged that judge Azmiralda had influenced Criminal Court judges to release her husband Dr Ismail Latheef when he was arrested.
Azmiralda's lawyer Ibrahim Shamil said in a statement today that three Criminal Court judges have given statements in the case. The judges' statement shows that Dr Azmiralda had not called any judge to influence Dr Latheefs arrest, the lawyer said.
"The statements also clearly show that Judge Azmiralda has not contacted any Criminal Court judge in connection with the case, either personally or through anyone else. No judge has made any such accusation against Judge Azmiralda," Shamil's statement said.
Therefore, there is no basis for any accusation that judge Azmiralda influenced the judges of the Criminal Court.
However, JSC has included in the investigation report of the case that a judge had given a statement that he had not given about Judge Azmiralda, the lawyer said. He said it was against the regulations of JSC Act to include untrue statements in the committee report while the statements made by the judges were clearly visible.
Anti-Corruption Commission is also investigating the alleged influence on the Criminal Court judges. The commission has not shared any information with the judge regarding the case. Judge Azmiralda was suspended in connection with the case
