Traffic operations: 6000 vehicles inspected in two weeks

Police have said that in the last two weeks of September, over 6000 vehicles had been inspected in Hulhumale' alone, with action taken against a number of motorists who had acted against traffic regulations.

Police have said that in the last two weeks of September, over 6000 vehicles had been inspected in Hulhumale' alone, with action taken against a number of motorists who had acted against traffic regulations.

Statistics shared by the Police today indicate that between September 12 and 30, 1266 cars and 5427 motorcycles had been stopped at checkpoints in Hulhumale'. From these, action was taken against 482 persons who acted in contravention of traffic regulations.

Police said that this includes 10 cars and 102 motorcycles that had been driven by persons without a license. 148 motorcycles and 34 cars had been stopped for breaking traffic regulations, and 3 cars and 40 motorcycles were stopped for dangerous driving.

In addition to this, advice had been issued to 500 other people who had broken traffic regulations.

Police commenced special traffic operations earlier last month following an increase in road accidents in the Male' area. Two young men lost their lives in such accidents.

According to Police statistics, 2100 road accidents have been reported this year.
