Ministry of Higher Education has opened the opportunity to apply for the government loan scheme for higher education in Maldives and abroad.

In an announcement made today, the ministry stated that 500 opportunities have been opened for loan applications.

Under this scheme, loans will be provided to two categories of students. These are new students starting their education and students who are currently studying (top-up loans).

This time, the top-up loans will be issued for amounts not exceeding MVR 700,000.

The top-up loan opportunity has been opened to assist students who could not complete their programs within the stipulated time period due to reasons beyond their control under the Higher Education and Training Loan Assistance and to help students complete required internships related to their completed programs.

New students are considered those who have not registered at a higher education institution or have not paid tuition fees by the application deadline.

Top-up loan recipients (continuing students) are considered those who have started their studies before the application deadline.

Applications for these loans can be submitted until April 30.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that the one percent administrative fees currently charged when repaying student loans will be eliminated.
