The new Minister of Defense Ghassan Maumoon's act of respect for the outgoing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the presidential inauguration ceremony of Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Friday afternoon, has attracted praises for him.
When President Solih attended the ceremony on Friday afternoon, he was accompanied to his designated seat by the Assistant Secretary General Mohamed Rasheed.
While the majority of the parliament MPs remained in their seats as the outgoing presidential couple walked past them to take their seats, the former Guraidhoo MP stood up as President Solih and his wife, Fazna Ahmed, walked past him.
His act of respect for the outgoing president caught the eyes of attendees, and the public viewing the live broadcast event.
Sharing the clip of Ghassan's act of respect on X, Azzam Latheef stated that Ghassan was brought up correctly. Another individual commenting on the post mentioned that the Maldives needed politicians who display such respect for one another, and added that building a respectful generation is crucial for the nation's development.
Former CEO of Maldives Polytechnic Mohamed Hashim had also praised Ghassan and said that his act was exemplary.
"That is the peak of discipline, it was a joyous scene to witness," another user said on X.
The video has since gone viral with many crediting Ghassan's upbringing to his parents, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and his wife Nasreena Ibrahim.
