A team of Maldivian engineers has designed and tested the country's first satellite, as part of the "Azum" space mission.

According to the Institute for Global Success (IGS), the CubeSat-level satellite was created without any foreign assistance and can be easily modified to fit different missions.

Aerospace engineer Hussain Assad, electrical and electronics engineer Mohamed Junaid, and mechanical engineer Ahmed Ijaz Abdulla led the design effort, with support from space team members Mariyam Mahroos Abdul Rahman and Mariyam Shimanath.

IGS Chairman and CEO Riffath Mohamed praised the team's achievement, noting that they had not only designed the satellite on paper but had also installed the hardware and conducted extensive testing to ensure the satellite's design.

The satellite is expected to enable the manufacture of hardware for various missions, from school and university experiments to sub-orbital and orbital missions, without design changes.

The biggest difference will be in the hardware quality and the payload or mission application.

On November 10 of last year, the space team completed the design of Maldives' first satellite. After ordering the hardware that day, the satellite was programmed, and tests were completed yesterday.
