Former MP for Ihavandhoo Mohamed Abdulla (Muhamma) and former Broadcasting Commission member Aminath Sarahath Izzath have been appointed as Members of the Broadcasting Commission.

When the vacancies had been announced, twelve persons had sent in applications.

The President forwarded the names to parliament listed in order of preference. At the top of the list were Mohamed Abdulla and Spokesperson at President's Office during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Ibrahim Muaz Ali.

However, the report submitted after parliamentary committee review excluded Muaz's name, with Mohamed sliding down to rank three. Sarahath was leading the list, with second place taken by journalist Shifza Mustafa.

Voting for members was taken during last Thursday's extraordinary sitting of the Parliament. Sarahath was approved with 68 votes, and Mohamed with 58 votes.

Shifza, although second on the list, only received 11 votes in favour, with 50 MPs of the ruling party People's National Congress (PNC) voting against.
