A man has been arrested for violating a restraining order issued by the Family Court, following abuse and intimidation towards his mother to extort money from her in a repeated offense.
The 40 year old man was arrested in connection with the case.
Criminal Court issued a seven day remand and said that the man violated the restraining order, extorted money from his mother, intimidated her, and assaulted her.
The judge decided to keep the man in custody for the safety and security of the community.
This follows a similar case last month in which a son was arrested for assaulting his mother and threatening to kill her. The Family Court has previously noted a recent increase in applications for restraining orders in cases involving children who abuse their parents.
