One of the biggest stars to have emerged in Maldivian cinema, 'Reeko' Moosa Manik has announced today that he will be once again returning to the big screen in a lead role.
The new movie in which Reeko Moosa will be seen in a lead role is 'Keevve', directed by Easa Shareef. Easa Shareef was also the director of one of Moosa's most successful movies, 'Fathis Han'dhuvaru'.
Easa Shareef, too, is returning to the scene after a 22 year hiatus. The last movie he directed was "Hatharu Udhares", in 2004.
In this return to cinema, Moosa will be paired with Sheela Najeeb. Also on the cast is Ali Shameel, a regular presence in Easa Shareef's movies.
'Keevve' is being brought to screens by Director Hussain Munavvar's Kid Production, who broke records at Olympus with 'Kamana' and 'Kambulo', Saturn Studio, and Aslam Rasheed's Slam Studio, which also has had many successful productions, and Noor and Movies.
Producers have said that similar to 'Kamana' and 'Kambulo', 'Keevve' is also built around deep social issues.
Shooting has been completed, and the movie's official poster was released today.
In an interview with Mihaaru last year, Moosa expressed interest in returning to his acting roots.
He was most recently seen in a special appearance on Mohamed Niyaz (Tedry)'s 'Lasviyas'. His last lead role was in 'Ginihila', a Maldivian adaptation of Bollywood hit 'Raaz', in 2003. The most successful movie in which he had a lead role later in his career was Fathimath Nahula's "Naa-ummeedhu".
Moosa found immense success in his golden years of acting. His character 'Jinaa' in 'Fathis Han'dhuvaru' has become a timeless icon, which won him the Best Actor accolade in the Aafathis Awards as well.
He was also presented with the National Film Award and Aafathis Award for his extraordinary acting in "Haggu", directed by Yoosuf Rafeeu (Yoosay) in 1996. The soundtrack from the movie, which also brought Mariyam Nisha to fame, is still a household favourite, with 'Mooney thiyee hiy edhey' still enjoying a spot on many playlists.
Despite his celebrity as a movie star, Reeko Moosa is not only an actor. He has also directed several movies and written scripts.
Moosa later moved away from the cinema and entered the political arena. He has made a name for himself both in politics and acting, loved by many.
