With the sudden passing of one of Maldivian cinema's most accomplished directors Abdul Faththaah, shock had brought about close friends and associates reminiscing about his memory.
Faththaah, 54, was a native of HA. Kelaa and lived his life there before suffering a stroke last night and being taken for emergency treatment at HA. Atoll Hospital in Dhidhdhoo, where he had passed while being treated.
He moved to Kelaa in 2018 and began a restaurant business.
Maldivian actor Mohamed Manik, who played important acting roles in one of Faththaah's most successful drama series Hinithun Velaashey Kalaa and Thiey Mi Hithuge Vindhakee, posted on Facecbook stating that Faththaah was very connected to his movie life.
Manik stated that Faththaah was a big part of his dramas during his time in school and teledrama competitions when Manik took part in dramas while working in the National Security Service (NSS).
"...Such works include the first long-running Maldivian series Thiey Mi Hithuge Vindhakee, "Hinithun Velaashey Kalaa, and the first movie I was in, Eynaa," said Manik.
"Even though he was away from the industry, we still remained close friends."
Faththah's cousin and former Tourism Minister Abdulla Mausoom took to Facebook, stating that the news of his younger cousin passing instilled a deep sadness.
"Even though Abdul Faththaah has passed, his award winning national service, close relationships, kindness and smile will live on by the grace of God," said Mausoom.
"He had served the nation in many ways during his time, specifically in the movie industry, with the Hinithun Velaashey Kalaa director's passing bringing about a deep sadness."
Maldivian movie star Abdulla Muaz (Muaa) said Faththaah was one of the most skilled directors in Maldivian cinema. He also said that Faththaah had worked with great interest and was a director that changed Maldivian cinema.
Faththaah's sudden passing was a shock to the nation, with his legacy to stand the test of time, said Muaz.
Mohamed Hilmi, former Under Secretary of the President's Office and former Maldivian screenplay writer, stated that Faththaah belonged to the generation that believed Maldivian cinema would slowly progress.
"He belongs to the generation that believes in slowly building Maldivian cinema. Frame by frame, brick by brick -- the stories at the time had weight and deep meaning," said Hilmi in a Facebook post.
Hilmi stated that Faththaah was not only a film director, he had also built up many artists in the industry and paved the way for changing mindsets with creative work. He also said that Faththaah is a capable personality that will never be forgotten in Maldivian cinema.
Before he passed, Faththaah was preparing to run for President of Kelaa Council in the upcoming Local Council Election on 4th April 2026. He had also received a PNC ticket.
Faththaah has made films, dramas, music videos and advertisements during his time as a director. He has also written stories and scripts for films and dramas. He has also created television programs. The Vattafaalhi program, which showed island life in its purest form, was a highlight of his.
