Five arrested in Naifaru, Hinnavaru in drugs operation

Police have arrested five individuals in the special drugs operation that they are conducting in Naifaru and Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani atoll.

The arrested individuals are:

- Hussain Easafulhu, 48, Ageedhuge, Lh. Hinnavaru

- Ahmed Mohamed, 36, Midhilimaage, Lh. Hinnavaru

- Abdulla Zakariyya, 46, DaisyHiyaa, Lh. Naifaru

- Fathimath Reema, 44, Kulhibalaage, A.Dh. Mahibadhoo

- Mohamed Irushad, 35, Fehige, Lh. Hinnavaru

The court placed Easafulhu and Mohamed in remand in custody for 7 days, Zakariyya for 15 days, Reema for 12 days and Irushad for 3 days.

Police said that in addition to these five, other persons had also been investigated in this operation.

The operation, led by Police's Drug Enforcement Department, Counter Narcotics Intelligence and North Police, saw the inspection of 12 premises.

Police discovered 86.26 grams of illegal drugs from the islands, along with approximately MVR 300,000 in cash, in MVR, USD and Euro notes.
