Local badminton star, Nabaha Ali, who has secured a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics has been compelled to postpone the training held in South Korea due to delays in arranging her visa permit.

Nabaha has been facilitated the opportunity to undertake training in South Korea after advancing to the Olympics twice in a row.

The delays surrounding her visa permits comes after the athlete had booked her travel ticket to South Korea as well.

Maldives Badminton Association (MBA) has not provided an adequate response regarding the delay.

A senior official of the Association stated that negotiations were held to send Nabaha to Sri Lanka to partake in a training camp. However, a clear response pertaining the South Korea camp was not provided.

"We need to clarify with the technical team on how that happened." said the official, speaking to Mihaaru News.

Nabaha was offered the opportunity to compete in the Olympic games scheduled to begin on July 26 at Paris, the capital of France by the Tripartite Commission in review of her good performance results.

The female athlete who had represented Maldives in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games held in 2021 (following Covid-19 induced delays) was also Nabaha. Nabaha also remains the first female badminton athlete to represent Maldives in the Olympic games.

With the chance she secured in this year's Olympics, Nabaha now remains the first badminton athlete to compete in two consecutive Olympic Games.
