Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef has ordered the Anti Corruption Commission to conduct a criminal investigation into how the previous government had provided compensation under settlement agreements to various parties.

The PG Office said that Parliament's Public Accounts Committee had reviewed such compensation paid between November 17, 2018 and November 17, 2023, and had submitted a report to the office.

The Office said that the report raises allegations against senior members of the State of having attempted to provide State funds and property to those who were not eligible.

The report further alleges that State officials had acted against official responsibilities in manners which were in detriment to the State.

PG Office said that as the ACC holds the jurisdiction to look into this matter, the office has instructed them to conduct such an investigation on last Tuesday.

ACC has been instructed to offer timely updates to the PG Office as the investigation proceeds, and to seek their counsel.

The PG Office has earlier ruled nine settlement agreements made by the previous government as void ab initio.
