Tourist arrivals to Maldives' rebound after decline

Tourist arrivals have observed a 13 percent increase this month compared to the same period last year, with 109,000 arrivals.

The number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives which had observed a decline over the past two months is now on the rise.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, 109,000 tourists have arrived so far this month, representing a 13 percent increase compared to the same period last year. In June, 123,000 tourists arrived, observing a 2.4 percent increase from the same month last year. However, the number of tourists in May was 0.9 percent lower than the same period last year.

Tourist arrivals during the first three months of this year were up 15 percent compared to the same period last year. February saw the highest number of arrivals so far this year, with 217,000 tourists.

Maldives aims to attract two million tourists this year, which requires an average of more than 170,000 tourists visiting the Maldives over the next five months.

So far this year, 1.1 million tourists have visited the Maldives, compared to one million during the same period last year, marking a 9.6 percent increase. The largest number of tourists came from China, with 144,000 arrivals so far this year. Russia followed with 119,000 tourists, and the United Kingdom came in third with 100,000 tourists.
