As of now, 900,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives this year.

Statistics shared by the Ministry of Tourism indicate that 11 percent of tourist arrivals this year are from China. The number of arrivals from China so far this year exceed 100,000.

The second highest number of tourist arrivals are from Russia, with over 90,000 arrivals.

Third is the UK, with over 86,000 tourists having visited the Maldives so far this year.

Tourist arrival rates have been on the decrease since May. In June, 14,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far. This is a seven percent decrease compared to the same period last year.

May, too, saw the number of arrivals lower than the corresponding month last year.

In the past two months, the average number of daily arrivals has been at 3700 tourists. This is about half the number of arrivals as was seen in the preceding four months, which saw an average of 6300 arrivals per day.

The earlier prediction was that a total of one million tourist arrivals would be reached within the month of June. However, with the decrease in number of arrivals, it now appears that this mark will only be reached in July.

The Maldives received 1.8 million tourists in 2023, with the government aiming to raise the number to 2 million this year.
