Over 5,700 Maldivians will be leaving to perform the Umrah pilgrimage this December.
According to statistics obtained by Mihaaru News, a total of 5,796 Maldivians are scheduled to travel for Umrah between December 13 and 27.
While December traditionally sees a high turnout due to the holiday season, this year's figures surpass the usual 4,000 pilgrims recorded in previous months.
The busiest day is expected to be Monday, with seven flights scheduled from Velana International Airport carrying a total of 1,243 passengers.
An increasing number of youth are observed performing Umrah in recent times.
The average cost of a 15 day Umrah in December is approximately MVR 29,500 per person. However, rates typically increase during Ramadan.
Many Hajj and Umrah groups also offer special discounts for children.
