National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) CEO Heena Waleed has said that an announcement of the date on which Aasandha services in Thailand and UAE will be commenced will be made soon.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the introduction of Aasandha coverage from Thailand and UAE in January.
Speaking in parliament's Committee on Social Affairs, Heena said today that the services will be established in accordance with the President's pledge.
Heena said that preparations for the introduction of this service are underway. As such, discussions have been held with hospitals in both countries, and paths forward have now been sought.
In the January announcement, the President said that Aasandha services should not be limited to a specific country. Hence, he said the service will be expanded to include medical facilities in other countries renowned for medical services, naming Thailand and UAE.
"We will broaden Aasandha services so that accommodation expenses when you travel there will also be covered. So our citizens, until our health services are improved, will travel to high level medical care destinations such as hospitals in Dubai and Bangkok. They will receive accommodation expenses, covered under Aasandha," he said then.
