Minister of Higher Education Dr Ibrahim Hassan, on Monday, revealed that a total of 1,176 individuals applied for higher education loans.
The government will be offering 770 loan opportunities for students earning qualifications from diplomas to PhDs. A total of 471 of the aforementioned placements will be for ongoing students while the remaining 299 are for new students.
Minister Hassan assured that the applications would be processed and selected fairly as per regulations published in the National Gazette.
By 2023, the government aims to provide at least 25,000 students with the opportunity to study under a free undergraduate degree scheme, award higher education scholarships to a minimum of 1,000 students and enable at least 2,500 students to take out loans to pursue tertiary education.
