Judicial Service Commission (JSC), on Thursday, opened applications for the vacant seat on Supreme Court's bench.
The spot opened up due to the parliament voting out Judge Abdulla Didi from the apex court over disciplinary issues filed by JSC.
An announcement by the judicial watchdog stated that applications for the position are now open since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih requested for JSC's counsel on appointing a judge for the vacant post.
Judges are appointed by the parliament based on names submitted by the President considering recommendations and counsel by JSC.
Requirements for sitting on the top court's bench include being over 30 years of age in addition to having at least seven years of experience as a judge or lawyer.
As per the announcement, the deadline for submitting applications is upcoming Sunday.
Every judge on the apex court's bench receives a take home pay of MVR 70,000 per month including salary and allowances.
The parliament recently voted to appoint two judges to Supreme Court due to the Judicature Act amendment which increased the total number of judges on the bench from five to seven.
The two, former High Court Judge Dr Azmiralda Zahir and former Civil Court Judge Aisha Shujoon, have yet to be officially sworn into court.
