Malé won over Thimarafushi today, in the group B match.
Malé City, in their first match of the Gold Cup, have secured a win with a score of 4-0 against Thimarafushi.
The team, which has many first division players on its squad, scored two goals in each half of the match. Malé City's defender Hussain Shuaib scored the first goal with a header after he was passed the ball by Khaleel Jamal. The lead was doubled with Ismail Wifag (Isse)'s goal.
The last two goals were scored during the final moments of the match. The third goal of the match was scored by substitute player Ahnaf Mohamed Thasneem (Nafko) in the 88th minute, with yet another header. A minute after that, Egyptian player Khaleel Jamal scored the final goal for Malé City.
Although Jamal got another opportunity to score, Thimarafushi captain Mujuthaz Mohamed (Mujey) blocked the goal.
Malé team's captain is Rilwan Waheed (Riley), who was seen with Club Eagles during the last season. Shaifulla Ibrahim and national team squad players against the most recent match against Bangladesh, TC Sports Club's Ahmed Maish Rasheed (Maai) and Valencia's captain Hassain Sufiaan (Soofi) also played for the Malé team.
Over in the Thimarafushi team, Shanaan Rashaad who played for United Victory (UV) and Buru Sports player Abdulla Junaid (Jenney) were on the squad as away players. Abdulla Ziyaan is also on the squad this time.
Both Malé and Thimarafushi are in group B. Next up in this group are B. Eydhafushi and B. Thulhaadhoo, who will face off tomorrow at 15:50 hrs.
