Man arrested for attack on Imam remanded pending investigation

The man arrested in connection with the attack on the imam of the Hulhumale' Cemetery Mosque has been remanded in custody until investigation concludes.

Hussain Faaiq, a resident of Alifu Dhaalu atoll Dhangethi, was arrested for attacking the imam leading the Maghrib prayers last Friday.

According to police, Faiq also used a sharp object to attack an officer who attempted to intervene.

Faiq was brought before the court, which ruled to keep him in detention until the investigation concludes.

Police have not disclosed further details as the case is currently under investigation.
