The motorist sustained serious injuries in the accident and initially was taken to Hulhumale' Hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of injuries, he was in need of more extensive care, and so was later transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male'. Police cited the hospital as saying that he is currently on ventilator support.

Police said that the victim had had his license seized on last Saturday for contravening the Land Transport Act. They, however, stated that the investigation will look into whether there was any negligence on the part of the driver of the Police car as well.

Police assured that all necessary measures will be taken to prevent further dangerous accidents such as this.
