People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah has called for consultation with Palestinians and Arab nations before implementing a ban on Israeli passport holders entering the Maldives.

Speaking at a meeting of Parliament's Committee on National Security Services (241) regarding a proposed amendment to the Immigration Act, Falah emphasized the need for extensive discussions before making a decision.

He said that the potential ban should be assessed in terms of its impact on Palestine, and what benefit or satisfaction this decision [banning Israeli passports] will bring to Palestinian people.

Falah also added that thousands of Muslims reside in Israel, suggesting that the perspectives of other Arab nations should be considered before taking action.

The committee decided to gather information on Israeli tourists and other visitors from Israel coming to the Maldives and consult various stakeholders, including political parties, the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Immigration, the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), and relevant NGOs.

The ruling PNC-majority committee indicated that it expects to conclude work on the bill by February next year.
