In addition to this, Maldives also won World's Leading Green Destination Award.
Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal received the award at the ceremony held in Mérida, Portugal.
Earlier this year, Maldives received significant accolades in the Indian Ocean Category of the World Travel Awards as well. At this ceremony held during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), Maldives won Leading Destination, Leading Honeymoon Destination, Leading Green Destination and Leading Dive Destination Awards in the Indian Ocean Category.
Faisal said that the Maldives continues to win such prestigious awards through the combined efforts of all working in the tourism industry. He noted that receiving such awards would make it even easier to promote Maldives as a tourist destination.
World Travel Awards was commenced in 1993.
