Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has said that as of 6 am this morning, 6,835 tonnes of flood water has been pumped out, and assistance provided to 58 residences.
MNDF said that 19 pumps have been placed at 8 locations in Male'. These include 4 pumps at the West Park area, 3 pumps near IGMH, 3 pumps near Maafannu Ferry Terminal, 1 pump near Kudakudhinge Bageecha, 1 pump near Bihuge area, and 1 pump at the MPL area.
MET Office earlier issued an Orange Alert from Alif Alif to Alif Dhaalu atoll, predicting heavy rains and thunderstorms.
January 3 also saw heavy rains and resultant floods on Male' streets, causing extensive damage to residences. NDMA said that the damages caused in those rains are estimated to be at MVR 2.2 million, and is recorded as having caused the highest damage in the Male' area yet.
