The Maldives' passport now ranks at 53 on the global scale, and emerges as the most powerful in South Asia on the Henley Passport Rankings.
Holders of the Maldives' passport can now travel to 94 countries without a visa.
The South Asian country ranking closest to Maldives is India, at number 85 on the global ranking. The Indian passport allows visa-free travel to 57 countries.
The world's strongest passport is once again the Singaporean passport, which allows visa free travel to 195 countries. Japan is now ranked second, after having been amongst the top countries until this year.
