Two men arrested for allegedly assaulting a man at a guest house in Male' last year have been released from custody.
The victim, who had been reported missing, was found with serious injuries at the guest house on September 9 last year. He was taken to the hospital and treated in the ICU for several days.
One of the accused, Fauzan Zareer, 23, from Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo, was released from custody on November 21, after the investigation was completed. Drug Court had sentenced him to two years in prison on September 25, and he was released to transfer him to Maldives Correctional Service to execute the sentence. However, he has yet to be taken to prison.
The second perpetrator in the case, Ahmed Mazin Ibrahim, 23, from Male', was released on conditional bail on March 6 after being presented before the Criminal Court. His bail conditions include staying within a restricted area except for medical treatment, wearing a monitoring tag, and avoiding contact with witnesses.
