The government has granted MVR 8 million to procure vehicles and machinery for Male’ City Council, revealed Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
The allotment comes from the foreign aid given to Maldives by the Indian government.
According to the ministry, the procurement of equipment is essential in order to ease pressures, strengthen and increase the council's overall capacity.
The funds are expected to allow for better execution of development projects, and deliver efficient and timely services to the residents of capital Male’.
The Indian government provided the grant assistance through the USD 6.9 million (MVR 100 million) granted to Maldives during the visit of former Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj in March 2019.
The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct high-impact socio-economic development projects across the country.
