Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday announced that two projects will commence under the financial assistance provided through the MVR 100 million grant given to the Maldives administration by the government of India.
The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact.
The two projects that will commence are the establishment of Emergency Medical Services in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alif Atoll, through MVR 7.47 million, while MVR 12 million will be used in the construction and equipping of six classrooms in both Lhohi, Noonu Atoll, and Kinolhas, Raa Atoll.
The purpose of establishing emergency medical care services in Haa Alif Atoll is to provide access to medical care for urgent or life-threatening injuries, illnesses and urgent medical intervention. This project involves development of infrastructure and procurement of machinery needed towards setting up an emergency medical services unit at TheIhavandhoo health centre
The classrooms are being developed to convert the schools in both islands to single-session schools. Restructuring all the schools in Maldives to single-session schools is one of the priorities of the administration.
The grant assistance was provided through the USD 6.9 million granted to the administration by the government of India during the visit of Indian Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj in March 2019.
