Police have said today that former President of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Bassam Adeel Jaleel has asked for an extension on the deadline by which he has to hand over the two apartments in Hulhumale' that he had allegedly purchased from association funds.

The initial deadline set for handover of the two flats he purchased from Amin Avenue expires today.

However, Bassam's lawyers sent a letter to Police requesting that the deadline be extended until the end of the month, Police said.

Police said that they will be responding to this letter.

Earlier, Police had informed Bassam that if he failed to hand over the apartments today, they would proceed to take the flats under them as directed in Criminal Court's order dated September 28.

Police have accused Bassam of purchasing the two flats in Hulhumale' with funds given by FIFA to assist football clubs in overcoming the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. Police have since forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General's Office.

In this case, Police also applied to the PG Office to press charges against the seller of the apartments, Amin Construction, as well as then FAM Finance Head Mohamed Ageel and FAM employee Hassan Waheed.
