Criminal Court has stated that Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan and a number of senior Police Officers are being held in contempt of court in relation to statements made in a press conference they held earlier this month regarding the 119 kg drug smuggling case.

Criminal Court said today that their panel of judges will be conducting an emergency meeting on next Wednesday to discuss this matter, which they maintain had attempted to exert influence on the judges, threatened the safety and security of judges, and been in contempt of the court.

Criminal Court holds Minister Ali Ihusan, Drug Enforcement Department Head Ahmed Shakir, Chief Inspector Ahmed Waheed and Sub-Inspector of Police Mamdhooh Hassan responsible for these violations.

After the Criminal Court acquitted some of the accused in this particular case, Police, on the instructions of the Minister, held a press conference on 4th April where they revealed all the evidence they had gathered in their investigation into the case.

Police claimed then that their investigation had been conducted to the extent that enough evidence to convict all accused individuals had been gathered.

In the case, the State filed charges against Ahmed Mujahid of Allora in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Hoadehdhoo, Ahmed Sunain of Irumatheege in the same island, and Ali Zubair of Guleynooranmaage, also of the same island.

Zubair alone was convicted, receiving a life sentence in prison.
