Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that students will now be awarded a certificate in Janaza without the need to complete additional courses or tests.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said in the press group of the Ministry that students who study one of six designated fields, whether at the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) or any other government recognized college or university, will be granted the Janaza certificate without the requirement of a separate exam or course.

Currently, under existing regulations, students who complete their studies at a government-recognized institution are still required to take a separate test, administered by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, in order to receive the Janaza certificate.

A license is only issued upon passing this examination.

Courses that are certified without further examination are:

- Bachelor of Imaamship

- Bachelor of Islamic Studies

- Advanced Certificate for Imaamship

- Certificate 3 for Imaams

- Certificate 3 in Janaza

According to Shaheem, the curriculum for Janaza certification includes both theoretical and practical components, covering funeral procedures and relevant scientific subjects.

He said that the decision to award the certificate without additional courses or exams was made in response to the shortage of individuals trained in Janaza procedures in islands.
