Maldives' first Table Tennis Masters Tournament, an international tournament, will be held in Alif Alif atoll Thohdoo in August this year.
Maldives' first Table Tennis Masters Tournament, an international tournament, will be held in Alif Alif atoll Thohdoo in August this year.
The tournament is being organized by Thoddoo Local Authority Company in collaboration with IHAA Table Tennis Academy and the Sports Ministry.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from August 19 to 25.
The first 120 players to register will be eligible to play in the tournament.
The Masters category in table tennis is for senior and experienced players. In some other sports, this is referred to as veterans category. The age categories which will be included in this tournament are:
- 35 to 39 years
- 40 to 49 years
- 50 to 59 years
- 60 to 64 years
- 65 to 69 years
- Over 70 years
Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles will be played in the tournament.
The matches will be played in the hall of Thoddoo School. Efforts are ongoing to place air conditioners in the hall and convert it to a sports venue.
Thoddoo is popular for its local tourism activities. Holding the tournament there allows for participants to enjoy a holiday while competing.
As such, tournament organizers have also planned excursions for players to take in the natural beauty of Thoddoo. Accommodation for players will be arranged by the Thoddoo Local Authority Company, with special registration fees announced.
