Parliament has today voted in approval of appointing former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs Abdul Haseeb Ismail as a member of the Elections Commission (EC).
Haseeb's name was nominated as a member of EC as its current President Fuad Thaufeeq's term is due to end on November 24.
Of those who applied for the position, the President only sent Haseeb's name to parliament for approval.
After the nomination was reviewed in a parliamentary committee, a vote was taken in today's sitting. The 67 members of parliament in attendance voted unanimously in favour of the appointment.
Haseeb was appointed as Permanent Secretary at Islamic Ministry in 2019 during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
