STELCO rolls out electric bikes and battery charging stations

STELCO has launched electric motorcycles and established battery charging stations as part of its efforts to implement environmentally friendly policies in Maldives.

The company's Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, said that this initiative is aligned with the government's goal to introduce an energy management system and support President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's green policies.

The battery management system, sourced from Taiwan's well-known Gogoro brand, has been made easily accessible to the public, he said.

The electric motorcycles and batteries have already arrived in the Maldives, and charging stations will soon be set up in various parts of Male; and Hulhumale'.

Fahmy also added that the opportunity for businesses to import battery-compatible motorcycles will soon be available.

“These battery systems, alongside EV charging stations for cars, will help realize the modern dreams of electric vehicle enthusiasts and further support the government's commitment to a sustainable, environmentally friendly future,” Fahmy said.

Additionally, arrangements are being made to bring motorcycles to the Maldives for test rides, aiming to spark interest in eco-friendly vehicles and encourage a shift towards greener transportation options.

The energy management system, along with the power for the EV charging stations, will be supplied by environmentally sustainable systems, to support the government's33 percent renewable energy target.

Fahmy said that Maldivians are eager to embrace environmentally friendly changes that reduce air pollution in Male' and improve the health of the community.
