Parliament stated this in response to a post on social media by Transparency Maldives, who expressed concerns that financial statements of the newly elected members had not been publicized as of yet.
In a message sent to media, the Parliament Secretariat said that as per Article 68(b) of the Parliament Regulations, members are obligated to submit their financial statements within one year from the day they take oath of office.
"Hence, Transparency Maldives has called for the MPs' financial statements to be publicized without clarifying the regulations around it," they said.
The Secretariat said that financial statements for the past four years of members of the previous 19th Parliament will be available on the parliament's official website. Their financial statements for the fifth year needs to be submitted by August 31.
