President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that three key ministries displaced by the fire incident which occurred on Thursday will be housed in government-owned buildings instead of renting office spaces until a permanent solution is found.
A fire broke out in Maafannu Green Building, which housed Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, rendering it unusable.
President Muizzu visited Dharubaaruge this morning, where the ministries have been temporarily relocated, to assess the progress of ongoing work.
During his visit, President Muizzu met with ministry staff to assess the operational challenges they face and to express solidarity following the incident.
He acknowledged the immense losses incurred, including employees' personal belongings, and commended their resilience and positive outlook during this challenging period.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to create a functional and comfortable work environment for the displaced ministries, President Muizzu revealed plans to increase the number of toilets, establish cafeteria services, and procure essential office equipment such as computers and electronics.
In addition to meeting with staff, President Muizzu held discussions with the taskforce overseeing the relocation and senior officials from state owned companies who assisted in facilitating the ministries' relocation.
He also extended his gratitude to the companies and institutions for their support.
President Muizzu also visited Galolhu School, where preparations are underway to resume the temporarily suspended operations of the Male' City Council's Vital Registration office which had also been affected by the fire.
