The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), on Wednesday, publicised a new regulation on investigative procedure.
Published in the Government Gazette, the regulation referenced Article 211 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Code as well as Article 36 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code, which came into effect in July 2017, ACC was instructed to draft directions related to investigations within a three-month period.
However, ACC's regulation had not referred to the Act in any form and was formulated prior to the Act's implementation.
In August, the corruption watchdog released a circular which asserted that the institution was the first to draft such regulations, adding that ACC had formulated its 'General Regulation' in April 2017.
An individual also lodged a case with the parliament over the matter, claiming that the general regulation formed and implemented by ACC in April 2017 did not adhere to the law.
The only institution that drafted the regulations in time was the Prosecutor General's Office, as both the Supreme Court and Maldives Police Service formulated the regulations after the deadline.
