President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that he is considering three proposals for a 'Generation Ban' on tobacco, aiming to prevent younger generations from smoking.

He discussed the initiative during the second episode of "Rayyithunnaa Eku" [With Citizens], a podcast series hosted by the President's Office designed to engage with the public, address concerns, and provide direct responses.

During the episode, President Muizzu said that Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has been tasked with drafting a Cabinet paper on the proposed ban.

He highlighted the importance of consulting medical professionals and other stakeholders in formulating the policy.

As part of his proposal, President Muizzu outlined three potential approaches:

- Prohibiting smoking for all individuals born on or after 1 January 2007

- Prohibiting smoking for all individuals born on or after 1 January 2004

- Prohibiting smoking for all individuals born on or after 1 January 2000

Explaining the rationale behind these options, President Muizzu stated that focusing on the 18 to 25 age group and below would make it easier to prevent addiction before it becomes deep-seated.
