RansomHouse, a cyber extortion group, has added Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) to their victim list, after claiming that they have access to 350 GB of the company’s data.

A post by the hacker group indicated that the data breach may have occurred on December 31, 2022.

TMA is the largest seaplane operator in the world, with over 60 aircrafts in its fleet. The airline caters to over 80 resorts in the Maldives and is considered an integral part of the country’s tourism sector.

If the claim is true, RansomHouse could have access to information about thousands of international tourists that use their service. However, it is not clear where the data breach occurred; TMA runs a diverse operation with various departments.

TMA is yet to make a comment regarding the alleged data breach.

Earlier this month, an issue with the airline's operational systems caused several tourists to miss flights. TMA did not officially cite a reason for the delay.

RansomHouse is a new cybercrime operation that came up around 2022. It allegedly exploits vulnerabilities in networks, steals data, and threatens to sell or leak the information on its website unless the victim pays a ransom.
